We train laboratory rats in operant conditioning procedures in which environmental events are organized according to temporal parameters. After repeated exposure to these operant procedures, the behavior of rats comes under the control of the temporal organization of environmental events; such organized behavioral patterns are referred to as temporal control or timing. I am interested in the behavioral patterns that emerge using a peak-interval procedure. We are currently examining the acquisition, maintenance, and disruption of temporal control using a peak-interval procedure. Some of the variables to disrupt temporal control of interest in our laboratory are: free food, drugs, and neuronal alterations.
