Getting an undergraduate degree in biology is a great way to prepare for admission into programs in the health professions. In fact, for most professional programs, biology is the most common major among those who are admitted.
Most professional programs have the same prerequisites:
- 1 year of biology
- 1 year of general chemistry
- 1 year of organic chemistry
- 1 year of physics
- 1 year of English
- 1 year of mathematics
As you can see from the list above, you can major in any discipline and meet these requirements. If you are interested in a career in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, pharmacy, or chiropractic medicine, an undergraduate degree in biology may be the right path for you to take to achieve your goal. We have advisors who can assist you as you prepare for admission to a program of your choice, and we have a student Premedical Club that can provide information and camaraderie with students who share your interests.
