Theatre Program

Students in the Armstrong Theatre program enjoy the unrivaled privilege of studying and performing live theatre in a performance-driven undergraduate department that produces more than one dozen fully staged theatre plays and musicals each year. Motivated Armstrong Theatre students build resumes and portfolios at lightning quick pace, placing themselves amongst many older graduate students in terms of professional readiness upon graduation.

The Whole Gamut

With comedies and dramas, musicals and straight plays, time-loved classics and fresh-from-the-printer original play scripts, Armstrong students develop a thorough understanding of theatre from every vantage: actor, director, designer, manager, stage technician, volunteer, etc... Supported by curriculum studies exploring various aspects of the business and entertainment of theatre, Armstrong student thespians move naturally from script to stage. Our students also build audition confidence and skills through the practice of taking auditions: Georgia Thespian Conference, Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF), Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), Outdoor Drama Auditions, Unified/Regional Theatre Association (U/RTA), and Georgia Theatre Conference (GTC).

Armstrong Theatre majors choose to specialize in one of acting/directing, technical, or management track disciplines, and take course work in each of the other areas. Students also participate in theatre festivals hosted on campus: Armstrong's High School One-Act Play Festival and springtime Outdoor Children's Arts Festival. During Summer semester, theatre students participate in Armstrong's Summer Theatre production company.

In 2012, Armstrong's Theatre program commemorated its 75 years of performances dating back to Armstrong Junior College's February 1937 town-and-gown production of Three Cornered Moon. During these now 75+ years, as Armstrong has grown our theatre program has evolved. Visit sunny Savannah, Georgia and our beautiful arboretum campus to get to know our students and faculty. While in town, be sure to visit our multimillion dollar theatre complex, Jenkins Hall, housing our state-of-the-art 180-seat proscenium mainstage theater, our similarly equipped cozy black box theatre, and a green-wall camera studio that serves our burgeoning acting-for-the-camera and video production programs.
