About this event:
Un Tejido De Nuestras Culturas: Art and Community in Argentina is a special collaborative project shaped by a Summer 2013 Argentina study abroad experience.
Armstrong senior bachelor of fine arts candidate, Olivia Stusak, who originally participated in the 2012 Argentina study abroad trip returned again this Summer, explaining that “meeting and working with the native Artisans is an experience I will never forget. It has changed my life forever. We never think about our everyday luxuries, for example hot water and a hardwood floor. These people have nothing but yet they will give you everything they have, invite you into their home, and treat you like family.”
Partnering with Georgia College art professor Valerie Aranda, Armstrong’s Rachel Green, professor of art, says she coordinates this collaborative effort so that “students and artists from the local area invest in service projects with their Argentine counterparts to build communities and use the visual arts as a pathway for exchanging ideas and developing understanding.”
Artists displaying work in this exhibition will talk briefly about the inspiration for their art during the exhibition’s gallery reception that begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20th where light refreshments will be provided. All are invited. Admission is free and open to the public.
At noon on Monday, September 23rd, as part of Armstrong’s Latino Heritage Week celebration, Hispanic Outreach and Leadership at Armstrong (HOLA) and AMT are partnering to present an artist talk on the Argentinean indigenous community of General Enrique Mosconi, near Salta, Argentina. A gallery reception will follow the talk.
