Respiratory Therapy Community Service Requirement - (one way to fulfill this requirement)
INTERPROFESSIONAL PATIENT ADVOCACY COURSE
3 credit hours
HSCP 3750-02/CRN 21670/Spring 2014
This is an applied learning course, with 6 Sunday afternoon classroom meetings (2 – 4 pm), 5 weeks of on-line learning, and 9 weeks of experiencing patient activities for 3 hours/ week with some follow-up telephone or internet work. Students will each be assigned a community clinical program or project and professional preceptor. By the end of this course, students will experience helping real patients overcome some of their social determinants to reach individual health goals, as well as interact with different health professions in interprofessional teams.
To participate in this course, students must:
a) attend a mandatory orientation, Sunday, January 12 from 2 to 5 pm (as well as five other Sundays, 2- 4 pm)
b) participate with clinical patient activities for three hours / week and follow-up telephone contact or internet research as needed throughout the week
c) communicate with interprofessional student team with self-scheduled meetings.
