Lesley Roessing moved to Savannah in August 2009 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to join the faculty of Armstrong State University and become founding director of the Coastal Savannah Writing Project.

During her professional career, Ms. Roessing taught high school English and middle school language arts and humanities. She was active in the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project as a Fellow of both the Summer Institutes in Writing and Reading, teaching graduate courses and working with the Summer Youth Program, and presenting school in-services and conference sessions. Lesley credits her Summer Writing Institute experience with “changing her from a teacher of writing to a writer who teaches; from teaching writing to teaching writers.”

Lesley has consulted with school districts on reading, writing, and unit planning. Additionally, Mrs. Roessing has presented at national conferences of the National Council of Teachers of English, International Reading Association, and Association for Middle Level Education, as well as their state affiliates, in the areas of reading, writing, vocabulary, and student engagement.

She has published several professional journal articles as well as books on literacy for teachers and students:
  • The Write to Read: Response Journals That Increase Comprehension (Corwin Press, 2009)
  • No More "Us" and "Them": Classroom Lessons & Activities to Promote Peer Respect (Rowman & Littlefield, 2012)
  • Comma Quest: The Rules They Followed—The Sentences They Saved (Discover Writing, 2013)
  • Bridging the Gap: Reading Critically & Writing Meaningfully to Get to the Core (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014)
