Frequently Asked Questions

What is my email address?

Your email address is the same as always: "xx0000@students.armstrong.edu". You can also get mail to and send mail from "xx0000@stu.armstrong.edu" for a slightly shorter address to type in. Both email addresses deliver mail to your Pirates' Cove account. (xx0000 represents your user ID that you use to log into Cove)

I heard that "username@students.armstrong.edu" is going away. Is that true?

Definitely not. Your "@students.armstrong.edu" account is safe for a long time to come. We simply added another option ("@stu.armstrong.edu") because many students reqeusted a shorter address.

I have an AASU student email account, but it doesn't work.

If you have not been enrolled in classes within the last year, your AASU student email account may have been disabled. Only current AASU students or newly admitted AASU students may activate student email accounts.

During the transition to Google, it is possible that we left off a few accounts. Don't worry - your old email is safe, and your new account is easy to set up. Just go to https://cove.armstrong.edu click, "create new account" and follow the setup instructions. Your Google account will be created.

If you are a current AASU student, and have created a new Google account, perhaps your password needs to be reset. If you have already tried this and the account still doesn't work, please contact the IT Services Helpdesk at 912.344.2518 to report the problem.

Can I login to my email account through the regular Gmail interface?

No. Your account in Pirates' Cove is powered by Google software and looks very similar to a Gmail account, but it is not in Google's domain. You must sign in through the Pirates' Cove login screen to access your email and Pirates' Cove applications.

How do I get to the old email I had saved?

Please note: This will only get mail in your inbox. To get mail from your sent folder or other folders, see next question. Once all of the old email has transferred to your new Google mailbox, you can delete this account from the "Get mail from other accounts" list. All new mail sent to your @students.armstrong.edu account will come straight into your gmail box without needing to check the old server.
  1. Click the Email link on the Start Page.
  2. Click Settings in the menu at the top of the email page.
  3. Click on the Accounts tab in the settings.
  4. In Get mail from other accounts section, click Add another mail account.
  5. In the pop-up window, enter your "username@students.armstrong.edu" email address and click Next Step.
  6. Type your password and ignore all the other settings. Click Add Account.
  7. In the next box, check "Yes, I want to be able to send mail as ..." and click Next Step.
  8. Verify the information in the next screen, and click "Next Step".
  9. Click on Send Verification. This will send a verification email to your students.armstrong.edu account, which will be delivered to your gmail inbox.
  10. Click on the Close window link to close the pop-up.
  11. When the email with the confirmation code arrives, open it and click on the indicated link or follow the instructions to update the confirmation code in the account settings.

How do I get the mail in the folders, or my sent mail from my old account?

Please note: Google's mail transfer is POP only, which means it does not natively support folders. You will need to follow these steps to transfer old mail out of old folders and into your old Inbox, so that Google's mail transfer can find them.
  1. Make sure you have followed the directions to get your old mail in the question above.
  2. From your new Start Page, click the Links & Utilities link in the menu bar.
  3. Click on the Old Email link, which will pop up a window with the old Cove email interface.
  4. Click on the folder you want to tranfer (for example, Sent) in the left-hand navigation list.
  5. Click Select All at the top of the window.
  6. Make sure "INBOX" is selected from the drop-down list next to the "Move" button.
  7. Click "Move".
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 until all the mail in the folder is in your Inbox.

The next time Google checks your mail, it will transfer all of your messages in your Inbox to your Google mailbox.

How do I get the address book from my old account?

  1. From your new Start Page, click the Links & Utilities link in the menu bar.
  2. Click on the Old Email link, which will pop up a window with the old Cove email interface.
  3. Click on the Addresses link at the top of the page, which will bring up your address book.
  4. Copy and paste into your gmail account in whatever way you prefer.

How do I forward my cove email to my other email account?

  1. Click the Email link on the Start Page.
  2. Click Settings in the menu at the top of the email page.
  3. Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab in the settings.
  4. In the Forwarding: section, click "Forward a copy of incoming mail..."
  5. Type the email address you want to forward to in the box that says "email address".
  6. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the screen.

How do I forward my other email account to my cove account?

You can forward other accounts into your Google mailbox by using whatever utilities those accounts have for doing so. You can also set up your Google mailbox to check your other accounts, by following the same steps as How do I get to the old email I had saved?, and using your other account names and passwords in place of "username@students.armstrong.edu".

What IMAP clients are supported?

Although there is a place in Google's Email Settings for IMAP/POP client setup, the passwords are different from your Cove account and not accessible at this time. So for right now, IMAP/POP support is disabled. We apologize for this inconvenience.

When I graduate or leave Armstrong, will I be able to keep my email account or switch it over to a Gmail account?

There is a grace period for students who are not actively enrolled to retain an Armstrong email account (currently set at 3 semesters but subject to change). After that point, the account will be deleted. Although we are using Google's software services, there is at this time no way to switch an "@students.armstrong.edu" account directly to an "@gmail.com" account. But Google makes it pretty easy to move your mail from one account to the other and you have plenty of time during the grace period to do so.
