Google Apps on Mobile Devices


Google Apps can be installed on Apple, Blackberry, and Droid devices .To setup Google mail, calendar, and contacts follow the instructions below for each device. To view a list of all Google Mobile Apps, please visit: http://www.google.com/mobile/more/

  1. Open the Settings application on your device's home screen.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Press Add Account....
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange. iOS 4.0+ allows multiple Exchange accounts.    


     
  5. In the Email field, enter your full Armstrong email address:  firstname.lastname@armstrong.edu
  6. Enter m.google.com for Domain name.
  7. Enter your full Armstrong email address as the Username:  firstname.lastname@armstrong.edu
  8. Enter your Armstrong email password as the Password.
  9. Tap Next at the top of your screen. (Choose Cancel if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.)
  10. When the new Server field appears, enter m.google.com.
  11. Press Next at the top of your screen again.


     
  12. Select the Google services (Mail, Calendar, and Contacts) you want to sync. To receive and respond to meeting requests on your device, both Mail and Calendar need to be turned on, and New Invitations needs to be enabled in your Google Calendar settings.

    To enable New Invitations, sign into yourGoogleCalendar using the web browser on your phone or computer.Go to Calendar Settings > Calendars > Click on the Notifications for the calendar you want to sync.Under Email check New Invitations (and any of the other Invitation settings you want enabled), and click Save.
     
  13. Unless you want to delete all the existing Contacts and Calendars on your phone, select the Keep on my iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) option when prompted. This will also allow you to keep syncing with your computer via iTunes.

    If you want to sync only the My Contacts group, you must choose to Delete Existing Contacts during the Google Sync install when prompted. If you choose to keep existing contacts, it will sync the contents of the All Contacts group instead. If there are no contacts on your phone, the latter will happen -- the contents of your All Contacts group will be synced.
     
  14. Remember this account will read “Exchange” instead of “Google”.


     

  1. Using your browser on your mobile device, visit http://www.google.com/mobile/blackberry/.
  2. Click on the “Google Gmail Icon”.
     
  3. Select "Install Now" and "Download".
  4. Follow the prompt to install. (Note: Turning the device off and back on may be required.)
  5. After installation, the Google Mail icon on your home screen or download folder of your Blackberry device.
  6. After opening the Google Mail Icon for the first time you will be prompted to enter your Username: firstname.lastname@armstrong.edu
  7. Enter you Armstrong email password as the Password.
  8. After successfully logging in your Google Mail Screen will appear.
  9. For this email account to stay up to date on this device, you must enable Google Sync by visiting http://www.google.com/mobile/blackberry/ using this mobile device.
  10. Once the page is open, you'll see a “Download Google Sync” link.
  11. Select “Install Now” and “Download.
  12. Follow the prompt to install. (Note: Turning the device off and back on may be required.
  13. After installation, the Google Sync icon on your home screen or download folder of your Blackberry device.
  14. Select Google Sync icon. 
  15. Type your full email address firstname.lastname@armstrong.eduof your Google email account and your Password.
  16. Press Login and Google Sync will sign in to your account. Once you're successfully signed in, please read the information on the Welcome screen carefully. If you wish, you can make changes to the default settings by clicking on the scroll wheel and selecting Options from the menu. Both Calendar and Contacts syncing are enabled by default for new users. If you're upgrading from the previous Calendar-only version of Google Sync, you'll need to enable Contacts sync.
  17. Click the Sync Now    button at the bottom of the Welcome screen. The initial synchronization will take some time, depending on the number of events you have in your Google Calendar and the number of contacts in your Gmail Contacts. You can allow the synchronization to take place in the background as you perform other tasks on your BlackBerry device.
  18. Only the contacts in your “My Contacts” folder will sync to your mobile device.
  1. From the home screen on your device, press the “Menu” button and select “Settings”.
  2. Select “Accounts & Sync”.
  3. Select “Add Account”, then “Google”.
  4. Complete the Setup Wizard for adding your Google account. Make sure you select “Already have a Google Account”. Once you enter the Armstrong address (firstname.lastname@armstrong.edu) and password (the password in which YOU reset/changed in the initial setup) of your Google Account, then it will begin syncing with your phone.
  5. Only the contacts in your “My Contacts” folder will sync to your mobile device.
