Presenter Guidelines

Abstracts


To participate, submit an abstract of no more than 250-words via the online submission form by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2014. In your submission you will be asked to include the following information:

  • Presentation Title
  • Name of presenting student and co-authors
  • Name of faculty advisor
  • Indicate type of presentation (Poster/exhibit or oral/recital)
  • Indicate if the presenting student is a undergraduate or graduate student
  • Abstract of the scholarly endeavor to be presented (a maximum 250 words)

 

General abstract guidelines

  • To submit an abstract student(s) must be sponsored by Faculy mentor/Instructor.
  • Only online submissions will be accepted.
  • Late abstracts will not be accepted.
  • All faculty sponsors must be referenced in your submission.
  • Only one student can be listed as corresponding student/author (First Author).
    • Additional students can be listed as co-authors.
    • A student can be listed as a corresponding  author on only one abstract.
    • However, there is no limit to the number of abstracts on which a student can be a co-author.
  • The abstract must be written by the student presenter, but can be reviewed/edited by his or her faculty sponsor. Mentors/Instructors should not write the abstract, but are expected to guide the student in abstract development.
  • Submitted abstracts are limited to 250 words, and must contain:
    • Hypothesis or statement about the project or problem.
    • Statement about methods or procedures.
    • Essential results, outcomes, or product.
    • Conclusion or summary.
  • Upon receiving the abstract, you will be sent an e-mail confirmation.
  • Approximately one week prior to the symposium, you will receive an e-mail notifying you of your presentation time.

Guidelines for Posters & Exhibits


The primary purpose of a poster/exhibit presentation is the communication of scholarly work and ideas to one’s colleagues and the community. The poster/exhibit session provides an opportunity for informal individual discussions based on the visual material at hand. Authors and viewers alike find this opportunity to exchange ideas highly rewarding. Abstracts for poster/exhibit presentations are to be included in the poster/exhibit. 
 

Preparation Guidelines

Poster elements should be mounted with an adhesive on freestanding poster board (i.e. trifold) no more than 4’ wide; either single panels of foam-core board or folding posters work well. The posters will be displayed on tables  (easels adjacent to the dining areas).
Some suggestions:

  • All visuals should fit into a space no wider than 48 inches (the typical width of a table)
  • Posters must be mounted on a typical trifold posterboard and should not exceed 36” x 48”.
  • Text and images should be visible from 5 feet away.

Guidelines for Oral Presentations & Recitals


Oral presentations will be 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions & answers.  Moderators will terminate presentations that are too long and will start each presentation on time. Presenters are asked to check in with the moderator before the first talk of each session. Each room will have a standard computer with projector and an overhead projector for use by presenters. If you need special equipment, please contact Student.Symposium@armstrong.edu with your request prior to the due date for abstracts. Each room will be equipped with a standard computer. Any special software requirements must be communicated to Student.Symposium@armstrong.edu prior to the due date for abstracts. If you use MacIntosh software to create your presentation, be sure that it will work on the typical PC or bring your own laptop to your presentation.
